Identification and Use#
1 . What is it and what is it used for?
Frame spacing tool - keep space between frames even
2 . What is it and what is it used for?
Frame grip tool - helps grip frame for removal
3 . What is it and what is it used for?
Spur embedder - setting wires into wax foundation
4 . What is it and what is it used for?
Eyelet punch - to keep frame wires from cutting into wood of frame
5 . What is it and what is it used for?
Bee brush - gently brush bees from frames
6 . What is it and what is it used for?
Double screen board (Snelgrove board) - separate two supers or hive bodies. Double beehive screens are also called Snelgrove Boards. The double screen isolates the bees that are above from the bees that are below the screen, while still allowing heat to circulate in the hive. By manipulating the six different double entrances, one can add or subtract bees from the top or bottom, or run a split on top of one parent colony. It can also be used to increase hive population and foster swarm control.
7 . What is it and what is it used for?
Queen excluder - keeps the queen from moving from one hive body or super into another but allows worker bees to freely move from one to another
8 . What is it and what is it used for?
Internal frame feeder/division board feeder - feed sugar water inside colony
9 . What is it and what is it used for?
Queen cage - hold queen safely for transport
10 . What is it and what is it used for?
Queen marking pen - put color mark on queen thorax for easy identification
11 . What is it and what is it used for?
Queen catcher - safely catch and hold queen
12 . What is it and what is it used for?
Queen cups - for grafting new queens from larva
13 . What is it and what is it used for?
Fume board - drive bees down and out of a super for honey harvesting (needs addition of substances that drives bees away at the time of use)
14 . What is it and what is it used for?
Uncapper - take off the wax cappings prior to honey extraction
15 . What is it and what is it used for?
Uncapping roller - put holes in the capped honey prior to extraction
16 . What is it and what is it used for?
Double honey sieve - removing unwanted wax and bee parts from honey after extraction
17 . What is it and what is it used for?
Honey gate - used on buckets of honey to assist in putting into jars
18 . What is it and what is it used for?
Uncapping knife - for cutting caps off capped honey for extraction
19 . What is it and what is it used for?
Refractometer - to determine the percent water content of honey
20 . What is it and what is it used for?
Uncapping tank - catch wax cappings when uncapping a frame of honey
21 . What is it and what is it used for?
Radial extractor - centrifuge for spinning honey for extraction
22 . What is it and what is it used for?
Varroa easy check - for use with alcohol to remove and count varroa mites in a colony
23 . What is it and what is it used for?
Respirator – keeps a beekeeper from breathing in oxalic acid fumes
24 . What is it and what is it used for?
Oxalic acid vaporizer - vaporize Oxalic acid for varroa treatment
25 . What is it and what is it used for?
Hive beetle trap - uses mineral oil or vegetable oil and apple cider vinegar to capture small hive beetles
26 . What is it and what is it used for?
Varroa mite sticky board – covered with a sticky material to capture varroa, it is placed under the hive body to determine varroa populations in a colony.
